Djordje Ivačković | Double Q Gallery
The late Serbian-French painter and avant-garde jazz musician Djordje Ivačković (1930–2012) was a key figure in post-war US and French abstract expressionism. Double Q’s presentation offers an overview of his work from the 1960s to the 1980s. His monochromatic works on paper from the ’60s reflect the impulses of jazz, with a highly expressive, rhythmic and improvisational process. By the ’70s, his practice shifts towards more structured brushwork. In the ’80s, he introduces vibrant colour and movement that give his works a fresh lyrical vitality. The presentation explores Ivačković’s evolution during a crucial era that solidified his place within 20th-century abstraction.
